Israel must demonstrate to the entire world how to resist terrorism and not give in to it. According to a report by The Times of Israel on August 18, 2025, Australia’s decision to bar Israeli Knesset Member Simcha Rothman from entering the country has sparked strong reactions from Israeli officials, who view it as a misguided and morally flawed policy.

Amichai Chikli, Minister of Diaspora Affairs, criticized the move, stating that it directly extends Australia's shameful decision to honor Hamas, a terrorist organization.

He criticized Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s announcement that Canberra will recognize a Palestinian state, arguing it reflects a broken moral compass, discriminates against Israel, and severely undermines free speech.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, known for his far-right views, also denounced the ban, calling it a historical stain and a shameful act by the Australian government.
He suggested that the decision was influenced by Israeli left-wing activists, who he said had collaborated with Hamas and denigrated Israel worldwide. Ben Gvir warned that Albanese’s approach, which he described as appeasing Islamist terror, will not advance Australia’s interests.
He cautioned that such policies risk leading Australia down a disastrous path, similar to Britain’s, where he believes appeasement has fueled further instability.
The Religious Zionist MK Simcha Rothman, who is at the center of the controversy, released his own statement, claiming that Australia's decision to exclude him is a concession to the antisemitism that is raging in its streets.

He revealed that the Australian Jewish community had invited him for a solidarity visit, emphasizing the ban’s connection to a non-binding Knesset motion in July supporting the annexation of the West Bank.
Rothman emphasized Israel's obligation to demonstrate to the world, including Australia, how to combat terrorism without giving in to it. He argued that yielding to terrorism only emboldens further attacks, a lesson he believes Australia has failed to grasp.
In his words, “The State of Israel must teach the entire world, including the Australian government, how to fight terrorism and not surrender to it, because surrendering to terrorism leads to more terrorism.”
