Group stages victory rally for Ikpeazu

A socio-political group, Movement For Abia Reunion yesterday staged a victory rally for Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.
Held at the Government House, Umuahia, the  rally attracted a huge crowd who came from the 17 local councils of the state. Speaking through their leader, Chief Armstrong Chimezie Okoronkwo, the group pledged to continue to support the Ikpeazu administration.
“We are here to congratulate you on your victory at the Election Petition Tribunal. We know you have no case at the Appeal court. As far as we are concerned, the 2015 Abia governorship election has come and gone and we appreciate and celebrate your all-round victory,” Okoronkwo said. In his speech, the General Secretary of the group, Chief Kingsley Maga explained that the organisation stands for good governance in Abia.
“We are here on what we term ‘victory rally’. The special rally would have come immediately you won the election and was sworn-in, but for circumstances outside our control,” he said.
Responding, Ikpeazu, who pleaded to speak in Igbo, appreciated the crowd, who waited patiently for him for hours. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Godwin Adindu, the governor assured the group that their efforts and support for him and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the elections would not be in vain. I thank all Abians and God. We are strong and believe that He will see us through.”
The governor also expressed confidence that the opposition will be finally defeated, adding that politics is played at the grassroots and not on the social media or in the newspapers.
He pledged to pay workers’ December salary before Christmas.
