Aba residents task over deplorable roads

 

ABA —RESIDENTS of Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State, have appealed to the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to utilize the current dry season to rehabilitate the major dilapidated roads in the city, which have continued to cause untold hardship on the people.

While the state government is currently addressing some minor roads in the city, most of the residents have challenged the state government to make more efforts in tackling the infrastructure decay in the commercial hub of the state.
The people of the city were of the opinion that if the present administration was able to repair many of the roads and other infrastructure defects, that the town was capable of providing sufficient internal revenue to augment the dwindling allocation from the Federal Government.

 

One of the residents, said: “Until major roads like Port Harcourt, Obohia, Ohanku, Ngwa and many others are tackled, the current efforts of the government will continue to make marginal and negligible impact in the economy of the city.”
Investigations show that in the past 16 years of the present democratic process, that the aforementioned roads which are densely populated have remained deplorable.
These roads are always flooded with unimaginable potholes and stagnant water have remained a permanent sight to visitors to the city.
For Mrs. Onyedinma Nwangwa, a resident on Port Harcourt Road of Aba: “We have said that this is a continuation of the past governments, but we are still watching them, their promises and propaganda because what they have done so far is just a scratch, which has no effect.”
